Super Typhoon Fung-wong Batters Philippines, Millions Evacuate

Super Typhoon Fung-wong, locally called Uwan, struck Aurora province with winds reaching 185 kph and gusts up to 230 kph. The storm forced more than 1 million people to evacuate from flood- and landslide-prone areas. At least two deaths were reportedโ€”one from flash floods in Catanduanes and another from debris in Samar.

The typhoonโ€™s massive rain and wind band stretched 1,800 km, covering two-thirds of the country. Its arrival came just days after Typhoon Kalmaegi, which killed 224 people in central provinces before moving on to Vietnam. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a state of emergency as the nation faced back-to-back disasters.
