Super Typhoon Fung-wong Batters Philippines, Millions Evacuate

Super Typhoon Fung-wong, locally called Uwan, struck Aurora province with winds reaching 185 kph and gusts up to 230 kph. The storm forced more than 1 million people to evacuate from flood- and landslide-prone areas. At least two deaths were reported—one from flash floods in Catanduanes and another from debris in Samar.

The typhoon’s massive rain and wind band stretched 1,800 km, covering two-thirds of the country. Its arrival came just days after Typhoon Kalmaegi, which killed 224 people in central provinces before moving on to Vietnam. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a state of emergency as the nation faced back-to-back disasters.
