ICC Allegedly Issues Warrant Against Duterte Ally Over Drug War, Ombudsman Reports

The International Criminal Court (ICC) was reported by Philippine Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla to have issued an arrest warrant for Senator Ronald โ€œBatoโ€ Dela Rosa, who oversaw former President Rodrigo Duterteโ€™s war on drugs. However, the ICC itself denied this claim, stressing that official news can only be found through its press releases.

Duterte, who led the Philippines from 2016 to 2022, was arrested in March and taken to The Hague on charges linked to killings during the drug war. Remulla said he was informed of Dela Rosaโ€™s alleged warrant by the Department of Justice, but DOJ officials clarified they were still verifying and had not received a copy. Dela Rosaโ€™s office has not yet responded.

Both Duterte and Dela Rosa have petitioned the Philippine Supreme Court to stop the government from cooperating with the ICC.
